I am Are Mokkelbost (b. 1976), a Norwegian artist and self-taught designer and maker of music.

Multi-disciplinary from the start, my early practice was rooted in musical experimentation with electronics and samplers - in group improvisation, solo compositions and in bands. The visual aspect of music was also important, designing album sleeves and stage designs for my own projects and others.

Collage has since become a recurring theme, both concretely, as in the cutting and pasting of images, and as a methodology translated to other materials and contexts - such as glass windows, mural reliefs or wall clocks.

Collaborating closely with other makers, the work happens in the encounter between visual cues, material properties and a given setting.

I am interested in the integration of art and design into architecture, with an ambition to make public environments, the workplace and the home valid spaces for aesthetic experiences, equal to that of the white cube or museum - be it commissioned artworks, interiors or furniture.

I also consult on external projects, and can source or initiate works from other artists or designers for a specific setting.

I enjoy teaching and lecturing in defined periods, and do some jury and committee work when possible.
